Expanding your reach

Let’s now talk about how to expand your reach and easily get into more groups and communities that are in the same niche as you are. This will help you find more places where you can promote your business or product and find people that are interested in what you have to offer.

We will do a setup of the following tools: “Finder, “Joiner, “Unjoiner, and “Ignore”. They are available for LinkedIn profiles.

Let’s head over to the Tools tab and select a Linkedin profile for this tutorial. Now you will be able to see all the tools available for Linkedin profiles, as you can see there are a lot of them, each with its own useful function.

Setting up the Finder Tool

You can search for Linkedin groups in one of these ways:

(insert screenshot here)

  1. Extract from Keywords – you will use this to find groups based on your keywords. It has two input fields, in the first one you add the keywords that you want to find groups for.
  2. In the second one, you enter “exclude keywords” – if these keywords are present in the group name then that group will be skipped. You will notice when doing searches that Linkedin doesn’t easily give you the best groups first, so you will have to make sure to add plenty of similar keywords for your niche and also plenty of negative keywords in order to be able to find the groups you need.

Next, you have the Group Filters. You set these up here so can you further drill down and find exactly the groups you need. You can filter groups based on the number of users they’ve got and if you are already a member of those groups. Once you choose the setting here, as well you’ll have to scroll up and extract the groups.

For this example, let’s find only groups that have more than 500 members and those that you are not a member of. Now let’s scroll up a little and add a few keywords. And after that click the “Extract Groups” button.

Once SM Tasker finishes finding the groups according to your specifications it will list them in the table below.

Now you can go through the groups it found, and you will see that some contain words that don’t really fit your niche and others contain synonyms. You can now do a new search, use some of the extra words you found to add in the search box, and also use some of the negative words you found.

We won’t do a new search now though, as you already know the process. Just select a few groups and send them to the Joiner tool than select a few more groups and send them to the Ignore list as well, we will tell you about this later.

Setting up the “Joiner Tool”

This tool will join the groups you found with the Finder Tool automatically. At the top you will notice the settings for this tool are split into 2 sections:

(insert screenshot here)

  1. Run timers – where you configure how often the tool runs and on which days of the week
  2. Joiner Settings – where you configure how many groups it can join per day and a few other useful settings like “cancel pending group join” after X number of days. 95 maximum groups to join per day is a little high here if your account is new so let’s set this up to join 10-15 groups.

Underneath the timers and settings section, the table where the groups waiting to be joined was sent. You will notice the same groups that we sent from the Finder tool here. You can select them, remove them from the list or use the advanced view for easier work on this list of groups. Make sure only the groups that you want to join are here and not random ones.

Once you’re ready with the settings, just go back to the top of the tool and start it. It should start joining the groups you specified. Once it joined a group, that group will be added to the last table of this page. The join process is over, however, some groups will require an admin to approve you to the group so you will see the status here if you were approved or not.

There’s nothing more to it, you can leave the tool running even if there are no more groups to join, and any time you send more groups here it will join them automatically without you ever needing to touch this tool again.

Setting up the “Unjoiner Tool”

This tool is used when you want to quickly unjoin some of your groups. Maybe you want to change niches or just decided using Linkedin groups isn’t for you and don’t want all the notifications and noise they create.

The interface looks pretty much the same as the one in the Joiner Tool, with most of the same settings and tables. You send groups here, set how many you want to unjoin per day and delays between unjoins, and start the tool. It will do everything for you.

The only unanswered question you should have here is: How do I actually send groups here?

In order to answer this, we will have to dig a little deeper into SM Tasker’s interface and where it shows certain data. So, go to the Social Profiles tab and click on the profile that you were using for the tools. You will notice it has several sub-tabs, click on the second one named Groups.

(insert screenshot here)

Here you will find a list of all the groups your account is into with different details for each of the groups like the number of users, tags (if any), and some actions you can take. As you can see, one of the actions is “send to unjoiner” so if you want to unjoin specific groups you can do that easily from here.

In case you want to unjoin all your groups at once, a bigger portion of them, select the ones you want to unjoin and click on “execute actions on selected items” and choose “send selected to unjoiner”

If you have the tool running, the groups you no longer want to be in will be unjoined. It’s that easy.

Setting up the “Ignore Tool”

This is not actually a tool, but rather a list of the groups you don’t want to interact with. If a group is on the Ignore list it will never be shown inside SM Tasker, not when you search for it, not even if you’re a member and want to post to it.

(insert screenshot here)

You can send here both:

  • Groups that you’re into but don’t want to use with SM Tasker, like personal or family groups
  • Groups that you’re not into but want to avoid for some reason.

You can send groups here from the Groups page that we talked about earlier or you can send them from the Finder tool so SM Tasker doesn’t show them ever again, not in the search results or anywhere else.

Wrapping it up

This is it for this tutorial, you now know how to find new groups that are in your niche and that can help you reach more targeted people.
