Show the observation, not a bigger claim
Reddit Video Subtitles for Community Demonstrations
Caption a community demonstration with existing timed text, clear comparison labels, and useful sound descriptions. Keep the evidence visible and the limitations easy to discuss.
A fictional desk-organization enthusiast records a drawer before and after adding a removable felt spacer beside its tray. The aim is an understandable comparison that other members can inspect, question, and repeat.
Frame the demonstration around an answerable question
The fictional post begins with a modest question: did a removable felt spacer change the rattle heard from this desk tray during a short drawer test? The author records three slides before adding the spacer and three afterward. That can show a particular observation under the recorded conditions. It cannot establish that every similar drawer will behave the same way, that a product lasts indefinitely, or that a measured sound reduction occurred. Define this scope before writing subtitles. A caption such as “After: spacer beside tray” identifies the condition. “Permanent fix for all rattles” makes a much larger claim that these six slides do not support.
Prepare the local recording and an existing timed track in Add Subtitles to Video. The output will be a new MP4 with visible text permanently encoded into its frames. There is no speech recognition or automatic evidence assessment. The author supplies the wording and decides which sounds deserve description. That responsibility is useful: a community explanation can distinguish observation from interpretation rather than accepting a confident label generated without context. If the test did not capture a suspected cause clearly, say what can be seen or heard and leave the cause open for discussion in the accompanying post.
Read the intended community’s current posting requirements before preparing a delivery. The tool does not check relevance, moderation decisions, or whether a community accepts a particular video format. Write down the question, what changed between the two runs, and what remained uncontrolled. This small outline helps determine which details must stay visible. It also prevents a caption pass from becoming a second promotional edit that removes awkward but relevant moments. The useful outcome is a demonstration members can evaluate on its merits, not a clip engineered to imply consensus or solicit coordinated voting. Keep any product relationship or material limitation in the accompanying explanation where readers can find it.
Keep the recording comparable before adding labels
The author places the camera where the tray edge, spacer location, and moving drawer are all visible. In the example, the complete recording lasts 28 seconds: an opening view, the first three slides, the spacer being inserted, the second three slides, and a brief result view. Keeping the change on camera lets viewers see which condition belongs to each run. A separate close-up may explain the spacer, but an unexplained jump from a noisy drawer to a quiet one leaves important questions unanswered. Subtitles can label the two conditions; they cannot show an installation or adjustment that the source recording omitted.
Try to keep microphone position, drawer contents, camera distance, and sliding effort reasonably comparable, and disclose differences you notice. This is a practical demonstration, not a calibrated acoustic experiment. A louder push or a moved phone could affect the recording. Do not normalize one segment separately and then describe its volume as directly comparable to the other. If the edit uses such processing, explain that limitation or return to a cleaner source. The caption utility does not certify the microphone setup or establish causation. Its job is to make your supplied explanation visible while the actual footage remains available for inspection.
Use an uncaptioned local MP4, MOV, or WebM that the browser can decode. The source must be no larger than 150 MiB and no longer than five minutes; the selected interval can run from 0.25 to 120 seconds. These are tool boundaries rather than Reddit upload limits. If the original recording exceeds them, prepare a suitable working excerpt while retaining the complete source. Keep the explanatory order intact: baseline, visible change, repeat test. Do not solve a duration problem by removing the very middle step that gives the comparison meaning. Note the working excerpt’s relationship to the original when keeping records for later questions.
Describe sounds without pretending to measure them
Prepare a clear before label, a short installation explanation, and an after label in the timed text. For this example, “Before: no spacer beside tray” and “After: felt spacer beside tray” identify conditions without predicting the result. Use an actual spoken sentence where narration exists. If the footage is silent except for drawer sounds, explicit descriptive cues can still help, but identify them as prepared descriptions rather than a transcript of nonexistent speech. Avoid adding a narrator’s words that viewers might mistake for audio in the recording. The subtitle track should explain the comparison while preserving the distinction between an observation and commentary.
A sound note such as [brief rattle on third slide] describes a noticeable event. It does not identify a loose screw, prove a tray defect, or assign a decibel value. If the later run has a softer contact sound, describe that cautiously rather than writing [completely silent] over audible movement. Listen to the exact delivery audio before approving these notes. Background speech, music, or room noise can make a confident sound description misleading. Meaningful sound cues should help someone following without audio understand why the run matters, not tell them what conclusion they must reach about the cause or quality of the change.
Preserve uncertainty where it belongs. “I hear less rattling in this recording” is a personal observation if that is what the author actually says; “rattling reduced by half” is a measurement claim requiring a different basis. Numbers printed in a caption do not become data because they sit over a convincing video. Likewise, the words “same three slides” should reflect the intended repeated procedure, not imply perfectly identical force. Place fuller method notes in the post so viewers can reproduce the check. The short timed lines should keep the conditions and relevant events understandable without filling the screen with qualifications that are impossible to read during the action.
Check the basic track against the demonstration timeline
The subtitle input must be UTF-8 SRT or basic WebVTT, no larger than 64 KiB, with at most 200 cues and 500 characters per cue. Every cue needs a valid start and end, chronological order, and no overlap with another cue. The drawer example can use a small number of carefully timed captions, so reaching the limit would suggest unrelated material has entered the working track. Verify the first comparison label, the spacer explanation, and the final sound note after loading it. An accepted file structure does not prove that the text belongs to this recording or that its descriptions match the audible events.
Suppose a before label originally spans source seconds 2.000 through 7.500. The author confirms that all cues are 0.250 seconds late, so applies an offset of minus 0.250 seconds. That label now spans 1.750 through 7.250 on the source. If the selected interval starts at 1.000, the downloaded used-track SRT places the label at excerpt seconds 0.750 through 6.250. Apply the offset before trimming and subtracting the interval start. The source timeline remains the reference for matching actions; the exported SRT uses clip zero. A uniform shift is available within minus 300 to plus 300 seconds, but it cannot repair a montage assembled from different takes.
For a wrong individual boundary, use the Subtitle Editor to revise the existing track rather than shifting correctly aligned labels. Unsupported WebVTT STYLE, REGION, and NOTE blocks must be resolved through an appropriate basic export. Supported markup or positioning losses require plain-conversion acknowledgement. If color previously distinguished the two conditions, replace that distinction with explicit before and after wording where needed. Do not rely on lost visual formatting to carry the experiment’s central difference. Keep the untouched track so another delivery can use its original features, and inspect the basic version against the same uncaptioned source before returning for burn-in.
Keep the comparison inspectable
Check the before and after labels against the recording
Bring the local demonstration and its reviewed track to the tool. Preserve the setup change, relevant sounds, and the detail members need to evaluate.
Place the text beside the detail being evaluated
In the drawer recording, the relevant gap lies near the lower edge of the tray. A default bottom caption could hide the spacer or make it appear that the two runs use the same setup. Inspect a frame from the baseline, the moment the spacer enters, and the repeated test. Choose top, center, or bottom placement based on those actual compositions. The utility uses one configured subtitle treatment, not a moving annotation that follows the spacer. If no single position preserves the detail throughout, revise the upstream framing or prepare a different edit. Moving the evidence out from under the words matters more than preserving a favorite subtitle location.
Set size according to the output frame and review it at a realistic viewing scale. The range is 3 to 8 percent of the shorter edge in half-percent steps. A 1080 by 1080 output at four percent uses a 43.2-pixel font size before rendering. That calculation describes the setting, not a community standard or readability guarantee. Color, bold, background opacity, and a margin from zero to 20 percent of frame height are available. Use the background rectangle carefully near the spacer: it can improve contrast while obscuring the exact gap readers are trying to inspect. A slightly different position may solve both problems more cleanly.
The text area is limited to 84 percent of frame width, with at most three wrapped lines per visible cue. Overflow blocks conversion instead of hiding the end of a sentence. Split a long methodological note into appropriate cues or move the fuller explanation into the post while keeping the recording’s spoken meaning intact. Do not squeeze six conditions, a product name, and an opinion into the baseline label. Also avoid a large promotional caption over the moment of change. A viewer comparing the tray edge should not have to pause repeatedly to discover whether the spacer was present in the first run or introduced only afterward.
Preserve the audio that makes the comparison useful
Because this demonstration concerns a rattle, audio is evidence rather than optional atmosphere. Keep it unless the delivery is explicitly presented as a silent visual explanation. Requested audio is encoded as AAC at 128 kbps and 48 kHz, and the tool must fail if it cannot retain the requested audio. It must not silently produce a muted result. Listen to the actual downloaded file with the same playback volume for both runs. Confirm that the beginning of each slide and the brief contact sounds are present. A mute choice can be legitimate for another purpose, but it would remove the basis of this particular audible comparison.
The video export is H.264 MP4, up to 30 frames per second, with a maximum 1920-pixel edge and a total ceiling of 2,073,600 pixels. No crop or upscale is performed. A lower-resolution source is not made more detailed by selecting a larger edge option. Check whether the chosen output still shows the spacer and tray gap clearly enough for the question being asked. A fast movement may be difficult to inspect in a compact delivery even when the subtitles look sharp. Keep the original recording for closer review, and do not present the captioned export as an unchanged copy of the source media.
The finished file must stay within 64 MiB, and the browser needs the native media capabilities required for the source and output. A filename ending in MP4 is not evidence of codec compatibility. If conversion fails, examine the reported issue rather than treating any partial result as a completed demonstration. Re-encoding is lossy and can alter the delivery compared with the source. In particular, a captioned recording is not a calibrated sound sample merely because its requested audio survived. Keep measurement claims out of the post unless they come from an appropriate separate method. Tool export limits also do not establish what Reddit will accept in the intended posting surface.
Review the delivery and retain a path to correction
Watch the preview once for caption timing and once for the comparison itself. The preview and export share the subtitle renderer, which helps check the text layout. Then open the downloaded MP4 and repeat the check with sound. Does the before label end before the changed setup is shown? Is the after label present for all three repeated slides? Can the viewer see the spacer without mistaking a shadow for it? A useful review includes motion and transitions, not just the clearest still frame. The renderer does not guarantee identical presentation on every physical device, so review the intended destination when the media file is ready.
Keep the uncaptioned recording and editable track because burned-in text cannot be switched off, searched as a separate caption track, or independently resized. It does not become translated closed captions. If a member spots a mistaken description, correct the track and regenerate from the clean source. The normalized used-track SRT records only the visible cues after offset and trimming, with times relative to clip zero. That makes it a useful companion to this delivery, not a replacement for the original whole-source track. Cues clipped at interval edges may retain all their words but have less reading time, so check those cases explicitly.
Save settings JSON when the style and timing decisions need a record. It includes transcript text but not the video or source filename; sharing it can therefore reveal words without providing the underlying evidence. Text or CSV review exports and the PDF can support a handoff, but the PDF is a settings and review document, not the demonstration video or a verification certificate. Local processing does not remove ordinary site analytics, and the browser utility has no login or autosaved project archive. Download what you need before leaving. If usernames, addresses, or private messages appear in the recording, remove them in the source edit; captions do not redact the picture.
Post enough context for a useful community response
Accompany the video with the question, setup, visible change, and limitations in readable post text. For the drawer example, explain that the spacer was placed beside the removable tray, that each run used three slides, and that the recording is an informal comparison rather than an acoustic measurement. Identify any change in contents or microphone position. Readers should be able to discuss an alternative explanation without guessing what happened outside the crop. A concise method note also serves people who find permanent video text difficult to read. Retain the editable track if a separate text version is needed for another accessibility or delivery workflow.
Check the intended composer or destination preview for controls covering a label, accidental duplicate native captions, and loss of the spacer detail at ordinary display size. Native caption features vary by placement and account; do not assume a universal SRT upload field. Selecting Reddit in this tool does not connect an account, inspect community rules, publish the file, or validate acceptance. If the community asks for another presentation, prepare it through the appropriate posting workflow. Keep revisions identifiable. A correction should say what changed in the description or test rather than quietly replacing a more confident claim with a narrower one and leaving replies without their original context.
SMTasker has no Reddit Publish action. Its supported Reddit actions include upvotes, upvoting comments, and commenting, which are separate from this local media-preparation utility. None of those actions establishes that a demonstration is valid, and this guide does not propose using them to manufacture approval. The useful next step is a substantive response: someone can repeat the procedure, identify a variable, or explain why the comparison needs another run. Preserve the source and revised track so that discussion can improve the evidence. A well-captioned example makes its limits easier to see; it does not guarantee votes, favorable replies, or agreement with the author’s interpretation.
Questions about Reddit demonstration evidence
Can the tool detect a rattle and write the sound description?
No. Supply existing timed text and review descriptions against the recording yourself. A sound note should describe what is audible without inventing a cause, a measurement, or a result that the demonstration does not establish.
Will a valid captioned MP4 be approved by a subreddit?
The tool does not evaluate community rules, relevance, or moderation decisions. Review the current requirements and intended posting surface separately. Its Reddit label is a preparation context, not a publishing or acceptance check.
Should I keep the original when the exported video includes audio?
Yes. The MP4 is a re-encoded delivery with permanent visible text. Retain the uncaptioned source and editable track for closer inspection, corrections, and alternative versions. Retained audio does not turn the recording into a calibrated measurement.
