Keep the brushwork visible

Watermark a Reddit Miniature Painting Progress Gallery

Add a modest painter signature while leaving the highlights, blends, and unfinished areas available for close inspection.

A progress gallery is useful because people can compare the work. Use the batch image watermark tool to identify your photographs without obscuring the evidence. This example follows a miniature painter documenting a blue cloak, a metal shoulder plate, and a finished base for a Reddit discussion.

Decide what a useful critique needs to see

Mara has painted the first highlights on a miniature’s blue cloak and wants feedback before finishing the face. She selects six photographs: an overall front view, an overall rear view, an earlier cloak stage, the current cloak closeup, a shoulder detail, and the base. The gallery has a question behind it: does the light direction read consistently across the cloak folds? That question determines what must remain visible. A large signature across the folds would defeat the reason for sharing the images. Begin by identifying the painted evidence that a reader needs, then decide where a small credit can sit outside it.

Separate progress comparisons from alternate angles. The earlier cloak photograph and current closeup show a change over time. The front and rear views show different surfaces at one stage. If those roles are muddled, readers can mistake an unfinished area for a later correction. Mara gives the files explicit source names such as cloak-stage-a-rear and cloak-stage-b-detail. These are working references, not captions generated by the watermark tool. A simple note outside the images records which session each photograph represents. This avoids trying to make one corner signature explain an entire painting timeline or identify every paint mixture.

Choose the gallery around the actual discussion rather than including every photograph from the desk. Two nearly identical closeups can be less useful than one clear detail and one wider view that locates it. Leave out a blurred shoulder photograph if the sharp replacement answers the same question. Keep the older source separately if it documents a meaningful stage. The goal is an intelligible set that a person can inspect, not a larger batch for its own sake. Once the selection makes sense without any signature, marking the photographs becomes a narrow finishing task instead of a way to organize an unclear story.

Treat the signature as a credit, not a protective barrier

For this gallery, Mara uses the short painter name Mara Vale rather than a sales message or a long account introduction. Someone looking at the metal shoulder should be able to find the credit without reading through promotional text first. A visible mark can associate the picture with that name when the image is viewed separately from its discussion. It does not verify who painted the miniature, establish ownership, or stop someone from removing the mark. Those limitations are a reason to keep originals and session records, not a reason to cover the model with increasingly aggressive lettering.

A single line works better than a collection of competing identifiers. The tool does not tile the name across the background or rotate it diagonally over the model. That suits this case: the small surfaces need uninterrupted inspection. Mara puts process information in her discussion draft instead. A note about the glaze being unfinished is relevant to the critique, while a persistent corner credit serves a different role. Keeping those roles apart also makes the photos useful later. The same marked shoulder detail can support a follow-up explanation without carrying an outdated request or a temporary progress label inside its pixels.

Choose the visible wording with the exported image in mind. A very long handle may be readable in the browser panel but collapse at a smaller viewing size. A compact name is easier to keep unobtrusive without making the letters tiny. Test the exact spelling before adding all the photographs. If using a supplied emblem, make sure its fine lines survive reduction and its colors suit the desk background. The workspace applies that supplied artwork; it does not generate an artist logo or inspect whether the name matches an account. Mara is responsible for the identity she chooses to place on her own photographs.

Make the source photographs fair to compare

Before importing, compare the earlier and current cloak photographs side by side. One was taken under a warm desk lamp and the other beside a window. That difference can make the newer blue look cleaner even if the paint has barely changed. Watermarking does not correct exposure, color balance, or lighting. Mara prepares more comparable source images in her normal photo workflow, keeping the unedited captures separately. She does not claim that the browser utility normalized them. The gallery should make the painting change understandable rather than accidentally presenting a lighting change as an improvement in the blend.

Retain enough surrounding model to locate each detail. A closeup of a blue fold alone may not show which direction the miniature faces. Include the neighboring belt edge or a matching wider view when that helps readers orient themselves. Any crop must be prepared before loading because this tool does not crop photographs. Similarly, do not expect it to rotate an awkward source or sharpen a soft eye highlight. It adds a mark to the image you supply. If the source has already cut off the shoulder edge, moving the signature cannot restore the missing part needed for the question.

Use Add photos once the selected files are ready, then identify each stage by its thumbnail and filename. These images remain local to the browser workflow rather than being fetched from a Reddit post. A phone capture in an unsupported format needs a supported still-image copy prepared beforehand. Renaming a file extension does not convert its contents. If a multi-image selection is rejected, inspect the reported problem instead of assuming that some of the chosen images were silently accepted. Keep a small, known set for the first pass so you can notice an unexpected source, duplicate angle, or missing stage before any styling decisions accumulate.

Place one name outside the painted evidence

Find the neutral sweep behind the miniature in the overall front view. It is quieter than the base, which contains small stones and grass that the painter also wants discussed. Mara starts with an upper corner where the backdrop is plain and the model does not reach. The ideal location is not necessarily the conventional lower edge. Read the picture as a piece of evidence: cloak, face, shoulder, and base are all potentially meaningful. A backdrop patch can carry the credit with less interference. Check that the same patch exists in the rear view before committing the whole group to that position.

Set the common appearance in Batch style. On an example image that is 2000 pixels wide, a 14 percent mark occupies 280 pixels of width. A margin measured against the shorter edge keeps it away from the boundary. These values are a starting experiment for this particular credit, not a Reddit requirement or a universal ideal size. Read the name and inspect the cloak in the same glance. If the credit becomes the first thing you notice, try a smaller width or a quieter position before reducing opacity so far that the lettering breaks into the backdrop texture.

Use contrast locally rather than judging from the entire photograph. A mostly dark picture may still have a pale patch where the mark sits. White letters against that patch can disappear even though they look strong elsewhere. Mara tries a dark neutral line on the light backdrop and leaves the colored miniature untouched. A solid backplate can help when the background is uneven, but its padded rectangle also occupies space. Inspect the whole rectangle, not only the letters. If it touches the miniature’s silhouette, move it farther away or choose another position instead of letting the support shape cover a useful outline.

Test the difficult detail

Keep the cloak transition unobstructed

Try the shared painter credit on an overall view, then inspect the closest crop before applying it to the complete progress gallery.

Handle the closeups as exceptions, not failed batch members

The current cloak detail has almost no empty backdrop. Its upper corner contains a highlight that readers need to evaluate. Select that image and use This photo to move the mark into a remaining strip beside the model. A custom position can be more helpful than jumping to another busy corner. Dragging within the preview is also a photo-specific adjustment. The task is to preserve the transition from midtone to highlight, not merely keep the signature inside the frame. If no position leaves that transition readable, prepare a less tightly framed source photograph and bring that version into the selection.

The shoulder detail presents a different problem: the dark name blends into a black background. Give this photograph a lighter text treatment while retaining the small scale used elsewhere. An exception need not look identical to earn its place in a coherent gallery. It should serve the same quiet crediting role. The resulting override includes the photo’s whole style, not only its new color. Later edits to the batch appearance therefore need a return visit to this detail. Do not judge success from the shared controls alone when the most difficult photographs are explicitly using individual settings.

For an earlier-stage photograph, avoid moving the mark across a location used for the new highlight in the later image. Even if the older area is plain, covering it prevents a fair comparison. Leave corresponding painted regions open in both versions. If an exception was only an experiment, Use batch style puts that selected photo back under the common treatment. Clearing all exceptions is a broader decision and should follow a gallery-wide check. Mara keeps two justified differences, one for cloak placement and one for shoulder contrast, rather than accumulating small unremembered adjustments on every image.

Inspect the exported detail before asking for feedback

Review the marked earlier cloak beside the marked current cloak. Can a reader trace the same fold without the signature interrupting either image? Is the brightest highlight still distinct from the lettering? A watermark that is acceptable on its own may become distracting in a comparison because it occupies different painted areas. Check the pair as a pair. Then inspect the front and rear views for a consistent sense of scale. The name does not have to occupy identical empty pixels, but it should not grow dramatically between pictures simply because one frame offered more spare background.

Download image for the current closeup and inspect the actual file. The browser’s before and after view is reduced for proofing, so it cannot demonstrate every fine edge in the delivered pixels. Look at the thinnest highlight, the texture of the paint, and the boundary around the signature. If a resized JPEG loses a subtle transition, compare a less compressed or larger export before changing the photograph itself. Avoid judging a painter’s work from artifacts introduced during your own preparation. Also inspect at a normal viewing scale, where a perfectly sharp but overly dominant name can still undermine the picture.

A PDF can help a friend review placement across the six photographs, but it contains scaled raster proofs rather than production images. The visible document text is not a searchable substitute for the full settings data. Use Download CSV or Copy review when you need filenames and planned output geometry in a separate note. Neither is an automated verdict on whether the cloak lighting reads well. Ask the human reviewer a specific question, such as whether the new highlight remains visible beside the shoulder. That keeps the technical review focused and leaves the painting critique for the intended discussion.

Hand over a gallery whose files and explanation agree

Choose the final format by testing the images, not by assuming one format always suits painted miniatures. JPEG can produce a convenient opaque photo copy, while PNG avoids an adjustable quality setting and can preserve alpha when the image actually has it. WebP is another available image export. If a transparent source is exported as JPEG, its transparent areas are flattened onto your chosen background color. For Mara’s ordinary desk photographs, there is no transparent background to preserve. The important comparison is whether the exported cloak transition and metal edges still communicate the details she intends to discuss.

Download ZIP gathers the completed selection as numbered marked images with a manifest and readme. Check the extracted files before using them. Match the earlier cloak stage and current detail to the explanation you have drafted outside the tool; numbering alone does not explain chronology. The archive does not contain the original captures. Store those separately if future progress comparisons will need them. The output copies also do not retain the source photo metadata, so a camera timestamp is not a dependable label for the delivered timeline. Explicit source names and a short session note are clearer references for this gallery.

Take the images into your own Reddit submission process and review the selected order there. The watermark workspace does not create the post, write the discussion, or publish it. Mara adds her own question about the cloak and identifies the unfinished face so readers know what feedback would help. Any later replies are separate from image preparation. SMTasker supports Reddit voting and comment activities, not Reddit publishing, and these exports are not automatically transferred into that app. Keeping that distinction clear prevents a finished ZIP from being mistaken for a scheduled gallery or a completed conversation with other painters.

Return for the next painting session with the right records

When the next layer is ready, start from the new source photographs rather than marking last session’s exports again. Reapplying the tool to an already signed image would add another visible mark without restoring the original pixels underneath the first. Keep a simple session folder containing the unmarked captures, delivered copies, and the question you asked. A saved preset can hold the shared signature and output choices for future use, including a prepared logo if one was attached. It does not store the miniature photos, their filenames, or the special placement and contrast overrides made for individual details.

Importing that preset with Open preset does not wipe photographs already in the workspace. Existing photo overrides survive too. Suppose Mara loads the next session into the same tab and opens a preferred text treatment: any retained exceptions still need inspection. Import is not a command to make every detail identical. Use the selected photo’s batch reset when one exception should go, or explicitly apply the batch treatment to all loaded photos when that is the intended fresh start. In either case, check the new painted areas. Yesterday’s empty cloak fold may now be the most important highlight in the entire comparison.

Save the files you need before leaving, because the tab is not an autosaved painting journal. Clear photos is useful when moving to another miniature while retaining the working signature; it removes the loaded photographs and their overrides. Keep your session history outside the browser in your own archive. On a later visit to the watermark editor, the reusable part is the crediting approach, not a promise that the new miniature has the same composition. Each progress gallery deserves a fresh look at what changed and which small painted surfaces must remain available for honest discussion.

Questions about Reddit Progress Gallery

Where can I put a credit on a tightly framed miniature detail?

Look for backdrop beyond the model and try a photo-specific position. When every available area contains useful brushwork, prepare a wider source rather than obscuring the part you want people to inspect.

Will the watermark prove that I painted the model?

No. It is a visible attribution on a new image copy, not an ownership check or an unremovable safeguard. Preserve your unmarked captures and progress records separately.

Does a finished export create my Reddit gallery?

Exporting produces image files for your own submission workflow. It neither creates nor schedules a Reddit post, and it does not supply your critique question or replies.
