Show the build, including the revision

Reddit Image Gallery Maker for DIY Build Logs

A useful DIY gallery lets someone inspect what you made, understand your decisions, and ask a better question about the build. It needs more than a finished-object reveal. This guide plans a removable plywood drawer organizer, including measurements, a failed first fit, and a corrected version. Use the example to design clear documentation cards for a Reddit gallery where the destination community and composer support that format.

The free Carousel Maker arranges your local build photographs and written notes into separate image cards. It does not reconstruct missing stages or turn guesses into measurements. You supply the project record, decide which details matter, and export the finished PNGs. The native Reddit composer is the final destination for those images. Before designing, identify the community and the practical question your gallery will help its readers answer about the build.

Choose a documentation question and a real destination

Begin with the reason another maker would open the gallery. “I made a drawer organizer” identifies an object but not a useful problem. “A lift-out organizer for a shallow desk drawer” explains the constraint. The gallery can then show whether the finished piece fits, how the compartments were chosen, and what changed when the first version did not work.

Reddit’s community settings distinguish image uploads from galleries containing multiple images. Communities can choose which post types they allow, so a gallery is not available everywhere just because you have prepared the files. Open the intended destination’s composer and confirm that the relevant image options are present. Check any required title format or flair at the same time. This is a preparation step, not a reason to redesign the project as a promotional campaign.

For the worked example, assume you are sharing a personal build in a community that welcomes documented woodworking projects. Your central question is: “Can I make a useful organizer that lifts out without modifying the drawer?” That question determines the evidence. Readers need the drawer measurements, the removable construction, the first fit, and the finished compartments. They do not need five different glamour angles of the same result.

Write a provisional post title before creating cards: “Lift-out plywood organizer for a shallow desk drawer, with the first-fit mistake.” It describes the actual project and signals that the gallery contains process information. Keep the wording factual. A title promising a perfect solution would conflict with the revision you are about to document. A clear constraint often provides a more interesting opening than a dramatic claim.

Build an evidence sheet before arranging photographs

Collect your original photos and notes in a local project folder. Sort them by stage: empty drawer, measurements, cut pieces, assembly, first fit, adjustment, and final use. Preserve the originals separately from any prepared images. That gives you somewhere to check a dimension or recover a wider view when a question appears later. File order is not proof of build order, so verify the chronology against your notes.

The sample drawer has an internal width of 420 mm, a depth of 360 mm, and a clear height of 65 mm. The revised organizer’s outside dimensions are 390 by 330 by 45 mm. These are illustrative project values, not a recommended size for every drawer. In your own gallery, distinguish inside drawer measurements from outside organizer measurements. The word “width” alone can refer to either.

List the decisions those numbers support. The organizer leaves 30 mm total space across the drawer’s width and 30 mm along its depth; that is not 30 mm on every side. Its stated height is 20 mm below the measured clear height. These differences describe the example’s geometry only. A runner, handle fixing, or uneven drawer bottom can still affect whether the real object moves freely.

Finally, mark each note as measured, estimated, or not recorded. If you forgot the assembly time, write “assembly time not tracked” in your private sheet instead of inventing a tidy number for a statistic card. A missing workshop photo should remain missing. You can show a new explanatory photo of the finished joint, but label it as a later detail rather than presenting it as an original in-progress image.

Plan eight cards that document the drawer organizer

Card 1, finished result: “A lift-out organizer for my desk drawer.” Body: “Plywood compartments, no drawer modifications, and one fit revision.” Show the organizer in use with a few ordinary desk items. A finished result gives the reader orientation before the process begins. Make sure the photograph actually shows that the object sits inside a drawer, rather than an isolated box on a bench.

Card 2, constraint: “The drawer sets the limits.” Body: “Inside: 420 mm wide x 360 mm deep x 65 mm clear height.” Show the empty drawer with a measuring reference. Card 3, layout: “Plan around what goes inside.” Body: “Long space for rulers. Small spaces for clips and erasers.” Use a dry arrangement of the actual items, not a decorative overhead image unrelated to the compartments.

Card 4, construction: “Keep the organizer removable.” Body: “The compartment frame lifts out as one piece. The drawer itself stays unchanged.” Choose a photo that shows the assembled frame outside the drawer. Card 5, first fit: “My first frame caught at the back.” Body: “The rear corner met a fixing I had not allowed for.” Show the obstruction clearly. Do not conceal the problem behind a large headline.

Card 6, revision: “Shorter frame, clearer fit.” Body: “Revised outside size: 390 x 330 x 45 mm. I checked the drawer through its travel.” Pair this with the revised frame in position. Card 7, project record: “What I used.” Body: “6 mm plywood offcuts, fasteners, and leftover finish. Example allocated material cost: GBP 12.” Replace the example amount with your own recorded costs.

Card 8, discussion: “What would you change in the compartment layout?” Body: “The long bay works for rulers. I would make the clip section smaller next time.” Use a final overhead image with the compartments visible. This question gives other makers something concrete to assess. It is more useful than asking whether the finished object looks impressive.

Make the photographs readable without overdesigning them

Use a consistent preparation canvas, such as 1080 by 1350 portrait, when the photographs suit it. That is an editorial format choice offered by the tool, not an official Reddit requirement. A landscape build photograph may need a different treatment to preserve the full assembly. Choose the format after examining the evidence, then inspect the destination preview before committing to the final post.

A documentation gallery should leave enough of the object visible to check your statements. On the first-fit card, the fixing at the back matters more than the overall beauty of the photograph. Choose an image where the obstruction can be located. If a wider image is needed for context, use a separate detail card rather than writing “obvious problem” over a photograph that makes the problem impossible to see.

Keep labeling consistent across the process. “First frame” and “Revised frame” are useful because they distinguish two physical versions. “Before” and “after” can become ambiguous when the empty drawer, assembled organizer, and filled organizer all appear. Use the same names in the card headings, post text, and native captions. That consistency lets a reader ask about a specific stage without guessing which photo you mean.

Keep the evidence photographic and the explanation modest. A restrained title band, readable body text, and a small sequence marker are enough. Avoid a large brand mark on every image or an ornamental quote card between two workshop photos. The build is the subject. When the image already explains the joint, the text can simply name the joint and the decision it supports instead of occupying half the card.

Review measurement photographs especially carefully. A visible ruler can help establish scale, but a ruler placed in a different plane may not prove the exact dimension you claim. Use your recorded measurement in the text and choose a photo that honestly illustrates where it was taken.

Make the process inspectable

Arrange your build photographs and notes

Use the free editor to label the result, measurements, first fit, and revision. Export separate images ready for your own native composition.

Design the build gallery

Explain measurements, costs, and mistakes precisely

Numbers earn their space when they answer a practical question. Drawer dimensions explain fit. Material thickness identifies the stock used. An unexplained total such as “12” does neither. Add the unit and the basis: “GBP 12 allocated material cost.” Do not present an illustrative project budget as a current shopping list or imply that readers in another location can buy the same materials for that amount.

In this example, the allocated total could be GBP 8 for the plywood used, GBP 2.50 for fasteners, and GBP 1.50 for finish. The arithmetic is 8 + 2.50 + 1.50 = 12. If the plywood and finish were already in the workshop, new spending might have been only GBP 2.50. State which figure you mean. Tool purchases and labor are outside this example’s material allocation.

Describe the first-fit mistake as a sequence of observations and decisions. “The rear corner caught on an existing fixing. I shortened the frame, then checked the travel again” says what happened. “Always subtract 30 mm” would turn one project’s correction into an unsupported rule. Readers can apply the habit of checking obstructions without copying a clearance that may be wrong for their drawer.

Be equally precise about success. A photo showing the organizer inside the drawer establishes placement, not long-term durability. Write “fits my drawer and lifts out” when that is what you verified. If you later notice a loose divider, record that as a follow-up observation. This kind of practical honesty keeps the build log useful because other makers can distinguish the completed test from the things you have not yet tested.

Turn the build record into an ordered export

In the browser slide editor, start with the finished-result cover, then add cards for the constraints and build stages. Enter your own headings and concise explanations. Attach the corresponding local JPG, PNG, or WebP photographs. The tool does not search for workshop images, fetch a project URL, or infer the missing dimensions from a photo. The gallery is only as accurate as the record you supply.

Use a steps layout for a short construction sequence and a text layout for a limitation that needs explanation. A statistic layout can emphasize a verified measurement, but it should retain its unit and context. Duplicate a card to preserve its treatment, replace the content, and reorder the result when needed. With eight cards in this example, you remain within the editor’s one-to-ten-slide cap, which is not a claim about Reddit’s native capacity.

Review the image and text together after every substantial change. The caption “Revised frame” must not remain attached to the first version’s photograph. If a paragraph does not fit, edit the explanation or give an important detail its own card. The tool blocks export for unfit text instead of silently cropping it. A valid export is still worth reading at an ordinary on-screen size before sharing.

Download the ordered PNG ZIP, extract it, and open the images individually. Save the editable local JSON project because your session is not automatically stored for later. A multi-page PDF can be a convenient workshop review copy, but the gallery workflow uses individual images. No added watermark is placed on the artwork. Keep your original photographs and fuller build notes alongside the project rather than treating the designed cards as the only record.

Add native context and check the gallery before posting

Return to the intended community’s native composer and choose the image-gallery option available there. Select the extracted PNGs and check the order shown in the preview. Reddit’s documentation describes galleries with per-image captions and links; use the caption fields offered in your composer for useful supplementary detail. Do not assume that every interface exposes identical fields or that an image gallery and images embedded in a text post behave identically.

A proposed post introduction is: “I wanted a removable organizer for a shallow desk drawer. The gallery shows the measurements, the first frame catching on a rear fixing, and the shortened version that fits. Material cost is an allocation for the stock used, not a complete tool budget. I would change the clip compartment next time.” This explains the build without forcing readers to extract every qualification from image text.

Where native captions are available, use them to extend rather than duplicate the card. For the measurement image: “Drawer dimensions are internal; organizer dimensions later in the gallery are external.” For the first-fit photo: “The rear fixing is the obstruction, not the drawer runner.” These details help readers interpret the photographs. Keep the main message understandable even if a particular caption is not visible in a compact preview.

Check the title, any required flair, measurement units, file sequence, and expanded images before submitting. The free tool cannot determine whether your account can post in that community. It also does not submit the gallery for you. Finish this handoff in Reddit, using the preview to verify the actual format instead of assuming the exported files guarantee a particular presentation.

Keep the discussion useful as the project evolves

A documented gallery makes specific replies possible. If someone asks why you left space beside the organizer, answer with your actual reason: lifting access, an obstruction, or an unplanned gap. Do not retrofit a design rationale to make every result sound intentional. The point of sharing a build log is that another maker can understand the choices, including the choices you would revise.

When a reader proposes a change, separate the suggestion from a tested outcome. “A rounded finger opening might help” is an idea. “I added one and can now lift the frame more easily” is an observation after a revision. If you prepare another image, identify the version clearly. Save a new local project copy so the original measurements and first-fit photographs are not lost in an undocumented replacement.

Use recurring questions to plan a better record next time. Questions about compartment width suggest that the layout card needs dimensions. Questions about assembly suggest a missing joint detail. You do not need to cram all of those answers into the first cover. Improve the specific card or capture a clearer photograph in the next build. Extra images should answer questions, not merely lengthen the gallery.

Close your own review by checking that the final result, constraints, construction, mistake, revision, and remaining limitation are all represented. Keep costs distinguishable from new spending and example figures distinguishable from your measurements. A gallery that helps someone judge whether the idea suits their drawer has done its job. It can remain a useful project record without becoming a full set of construction plans.

Questions about Reddit Image Galleries

Can I post a gallery in every Reddit community?

No. Communities control which post types they allow, including image galleries. Check the intended community and the options in its composer before designing around a gallery. The exported cards remain ordinary image files; they do not enable a missing post type or guarantee that your account can submit there.

Should I use card text, native captions, or both?

Use short card text for essential labels and observations. Where your composer provides native captions, add details that help interpret the image, such as whether a measurement is internal or external. Put the overall project context in the accompanying text available to you. Avoid repeating the same paragraph in all three places.

Does this tool or SMTasker submit the Reddit gallery?

No. Export individual PNG cards, then compose and submit the post in Reddit yourself. SMTasker does not claim a Reddit Publish action here. Its supported Reddit actions are separate from this image-preparation workflow, and the editable JSON project is not a direct app import or a publishing queue.
