Tutorial posts and answer comments

Create a Reddit Performance Report for Technical Education

A Reddit performance report should help a technical educator see which explanations deserve more work. A tutorial post and a helpful answer inside another discussion are different contributions. Separate their evidence, keep the source meaning of views and replies, and treat net vote score as a signed measure rather than an exact count of supporters.

Use the free Social Media Report Builder to organize Reddit figures you supply, compare matching observations, and document the next teaching decision. It does not retrieve account analytics. This guide follows a fictional educator called Query Workshop, which teaches database indexing through tutorial posts and public answers. The example keeps post and comment cohorts separate, explains an improvement from a negative score without a percentage claim, and turns reviewed questions into a practical plan for the next lessons.

Set an educational question and select the contributions

Query Workshop wants to know whether its indexing explanations help readers diagnose a slow query. The reporting question is not simply whether its account became more popular. For the current selection, the educator includes six tutorial posts and twenty-four top-level answer comments published from September 14 through September 27. The earlier selection covers August 31 through September 13, with six tutorial posts and twenty answer comments. State those contribution counts before comparing results. More authored answers create more opportunities for observations, so a larger total does not automatically mean the individual explanations became more useful.

Choose cohort scope because the report follows selected contributions and their observed results, rather than claiming that all recorded activity happened inside the publication dates. The educator records each contribution at an agreed age of seven days. Some current observations therefore occur after September 27. Keep the publication window on the report, and describe the observation rule in the source notes. A different project could use a genuine date-filtered period series, but do not combine that series with lifetime post counters and still call the result a single two-week activity total.

Use two labeled records for the educator account: tutorial posts and top-level answer comments. They represent different scopes for the same account, not two distinct educators. Define exclusions in your working selection list. This example excludes private messages, contributions written by other accounts, and the educator’s follow-up replies from the authored-item count. Incoming replies can still appear in a source counter that includes all authors. Do not confuse the number of comments the educator wrote with the number of responses those comments attracted. The inclusion rule should make that distinction understandable before any figures are entered.

Use the available Reddit source without changing its labels

Inspect the insights available for the selected posts and comments, or the relevant account reporting view when available. Record which surface supplied each figure because item insights and account summaries need not describe the same population or timeframe. A source may show post views, comment views, reply counts, shares, vote-related measures, or profile followers, but the builder catalog does not guarantee their availability. Keep a short evidence ledger containing the contribution reference, content type, original metric label, observation age, and captured value. That ledger is the basis for the manually supplied report totals.

Preserve source-specific view definitions instead of relabeling them as unique people. A post-level view figure and an account-level measure labeled reach can have different wording and scope. Even where a source describes uniqueness for an individual item, adding several items does not deduplicate the readers across them. For Query Workshop, a supplied cohort view total remains views of the selected contributions under the recorded source definition. It is not the number of distinct database learners, community members reached, or new potential customers. Keep that qualification close to the interpretation rather than relying on an ambiguous audience heading.

If you download a native Reddit CSV, inspect it before preparing report inputs. The builder does not parse that native export or decide how its headings map to the catalog. Use the provided report template after you have selected, reconciled, and checked your figures. For example, an upvote rate column is not a score column, and a reply count can describe a different content type from a post comment count. Do not paste a convenient number into the wrong field to avoid a blank. A missing observation is a valid outcome of the source review.

Separate authored volume, responses, followers, and net score

Published items describes the explicitly selected authored contributions. Enter six for the tutorial-post cohort and twenty-four for the answer-comment cohort in this example. The comments field needs an equally clear note: for tutorial posts it contains the selected source’s comment counts; for answer comments it contains replies to those selected answers as counted by the source. Preserve whether those counters include the educator’s own follow-ups. Do not add a parent comment’s entire reply tree and a nested selected answer’s reply tree as if they were disjoint. Exclude overlapping selections or leave the aggregate unavailable until it is reconciled.

Net vote score is signed. It is not an exact count of upvotes, individual voters, or people helped. A displayed score of twelve does not establish that twelve different learners endorsed the explanation, and an upvote ratio is not an interchangeable input. Supply score only when your evidence actually provides the net score for the selected scope. For a cohort, document any manually prepared sum of observed item scores and retain the item values in your evidence. The builder compares the total you supply; it does not retrieve votes or reconstruct voting histories from public counters.

Keep profile followers separate from subscribers to a community and from people who replied to a lesson. A valid follower value is the source-provided ending snapshot for the educator account, not a new-follower count attributed to the selected posts. If that snapshot does not belong in a content-specific comparison, leave it out and explain it elsewhere. Shares remain source-defined sharing actions, not a count of distinct people recommending the lesson. The metric definitions guide provides a useful check when similar labels conceal different reporting units or observation scopes.

Build a tutorial-post cohort with a reproducible comparison

Create the report title and date windows, then add a Reddit record labeled Query Workshop tutorial posts. Select cohort scope and describe the six selected posts, their seven-day observations, and the source used. For the fictional current cohort, the educator supplies 22,400 views, 91 comments, 39 shares, and a net score total of 374. The earlier six-post selection has 19,800 views, 68 comments, 31 shares, and a net score total of 286. These are illustrative values prepared from the selected evidence, not a recommended performance level for technical educators or a claim about a typical community.

With score as the focus metric, the chart compares 374 with 286 for this one account record. The difference is 88 score points, and the positive previous value permits a change of approximately 30.77%. Views increase by 2,600 and comments by 23, but each belongs to its own unit and comparison. Do not place views, comments, and score on a single raw-value chart to decide which performed best. They describe different observations. A score point is not a view, a share, or a verified successful attempt to apply the indexing advice.

Read the example alongside the lesson selection. The current posts include a worked query-plan explanation, an indexing checklist, and a correction of a common assumption about small tables. The previous selection covers a different set of questions. Matching post count and observation age improves consistency, but it does not create an experiment with identical readers and topics. Write a restrained takeaway: the selected tutorial cohort shows higher observed score and more discussion, while the team will inspect which explanations produced useful follow-up questions. The report should support that inspection rather than announce a proven improvement in learning.

Enter the selected post and comment figures, preserve signed score, and add the reviewed examples that explain what the educator should improve.

Report answer comments without inventing a percentage recovery

Add the second Reddit record for the selected top-level answer comments. The fictional current cohort contains twenty-four authored answers with 8,600 views, 74 replies as counted by the selected source, 11 shares, and a manually supplied net score total of 42. The earlier twenty-answer cohort has 7,200 views, 53 replies, 8 shares, and a net score total of minus eighteen. Keep the reply definition in the source note, including any author follow-ups counted by the source. These figures describe the selected answer cohort, not every comment in the communities where the educator participated.

The score moves from minus eighteen to 42, an absolute improvement of sixty score points. Do not report a percentage increase from that negative baseline. The builder uses a percentage change only when the previous value is greater than zero. A previous score of zero also lacks a usable percentage baseline, although a known current value still permits an absolute difference. An unknown previous score permits neither calculation. This rule matters because a recovery through zero can sound spectacular when forced into a percentage, while the straightforward signed difference already tells the reader what changed.

Choose score as this record’s focus metric only when the signed comparison is useful for the meeting. Its chart needs a visible zero reference so the earlier negative value and the current positive value can be understood together. A positive entered target of sixty score points would show 70% observed progress for the current score of 42. If the observed current score were negative, target progress would not be calculated. None of these operations estimates future approval or audience sentiment. Keep the different answer volumes and the reviewed subject matter beside the arithmetic so readers can judge the context.

Review the technical discussion before naming the lesson

Read a manageable selection of contributions behind each cohort rather than choosing examples solely by score. Query Workshop finds that the earlier answer set included a categorical recommendation to add an index before examining the query plan. Several readers challenged that advice with small-table examples. The current answer set asks for the relevant plan and explains the trade-off before recommending a change. This is a fictional editorial finding based on human review. The score movement alone cannot identify that explanation as the cause, and the builder does not classify comments, assess technical correctness, or generate this diagnosis.

Record what the educator actually needs to improve. A follow-up question asking how to read a plan may reveal a missing beginner explanation. A disagreement about write overhead may identify a useful advanced lesson. A short answer can be valuable even when it receives little visible discussion. Distinguish these observations from a vague sentiment claim such as the community trusts us more. Review the content of the responses and any acknowledged corrections before using that language. Net score and comment volume do not tell you whether readers reproduced the example, understood the trade-off, or solved their original performance issue.

Use the top-posts field for a small written evidence selection, including comment references when those are the relevant contributions. For instance, identify tutorial T03 as the clearest query-plan example and answer A17 as the place where the missing beginner step became apparent. Explain why each matters rather than relying on a superlative like best performing. The field does not automatically search or rank Reddit content. Keep exact contribution references in your private working evidence and use concise identifiers in the report so a reviewer can connect the diagnosis to a specific teaching decision.

Write a decision-ready report for the education team

Open the executive summary with the educational goal and a direct observation from each cohort. The tutorial selection produced more recorded discussion, while the answer-comment score moved above zero against the earlier selection. Add the key qualification: these are selected-content observations at a consistent age, with different answer volumes and no claim of measured learning outcomes. Keep the compact summary focused on what the team should review. Save detailed calculations and individual item evidence in the supporting working material, and use the next-actions field for an owner, task, and review point rather than another list of counters.

Inspect the PDF after export to confirm that tutorial posts and answer comments remain visibly distinct. Check that the negative previous score has not disappeared from the chart, that the percentage baseline is unavailable where appropriate, and that the source note explains what comments means for the answer cohort. Download the normalized CSV when someone needs to audit the account-and-metric entries, and save JSON to retain the complete editable project. The builder does not automatically save the working report or send it to the education team. Preserve the files you need before closing the browser session.

If the educator also reports on other channels, keep the Reddit contribution results inside their own scope instead of adding them to a combined audience number. Views and followers do not become a unique learner total when several platform reports are placed together. The monthly client report guide can help present the broader decisions without flattening the definitions. Ask the reviewer to trace the negative score, a selected reply count, and one proposed lesson back to their evidence. Those checks test whether the narrative is supported, not merely whether the report looks complete.

Use the findings to plan the next teaching cycle

Choose the next teaching task from the reviewed questions. For Query Workshop, that means a short beginner explanation of query-plan terms and a worked example showing when an extra index is not the first answer. Give the educator responsibility for the example and another team member responsibility for checking it before publication. The next report can inspect whether similar questions recur in the selected discussion. Do not define success solely as a higher net score; a careful correction can still attract debate, and a popular oversimplification is not automatically a better technical explanation.

Keep the seven-day observation rule and top-level answer selection where practical. If the educator changes to a longer tutorial series or begins answering inside nested branches, document the new selection rather than silently extending the old comparison. A contribution that is removed or lacks a matching observable metric needs a clear missing-data note, not an assumed zero score or zero views. Preserve the previous JSON project before updating any values and check each comparison pair explicitly. Reopening the file does not collect new Reddit observations or automatically move last cycle’s current values into the previous column.

Return to the free report builder when the next evidence is ready, keeping the report centered on a practical educational decision. The useful output is a documented choice about what to explain, correct, or investigate, supported by source-provided figures and reviewed contributions. A credible Reddit analytics report template accommodates disagreement, signed scores, and missing fields without turning them into an artificial success story. That makes it easier for the team to improve its teaching while keeping the actual meaning of the community response visible.

Questions about Reddit Performance Report

Is Reddit net vote score the same as upvotes?

No. Net score is a signed vote-related measure, not an exact upvote count or a count of individual supporters. Do not replace it with an upvote ratio or a differently labeled export column. Use a supplied score only for the selected scope and retain its source context. A manually prepared cohort total needs the underlying observed item scores, not a reconstruction from views or comments.

What should a report show when score rises from negative to positive?

Show the two signed observations and their absolute difference. A move from minus eighteen to 42 is an improvement of sixty score points. It has no usable percentage baseline because the previous value is not above zero. The chart should retain a zero reference. A missing previous value is different again: without both known observations, there is no calculated difference to present.

Can tutorial posts and answer comments share one Reddit total?

They can appear in the same report, but separate labeled cohorts usually answer the educational question more clearly. Preserve the source meaning of views and of comments or replies, and avoid overlapping reply trees. Never call a summed view count unique learners. The builder does not retrieve Reddit figures or reconcile native exports; the selection and any prepared totals must be checked before you enter them.
