The community is part of the context
Reddit Campaign Comparison Without Mixing Community Effects
A Reddit campaign comparison should explain who encountered the offer, what they could do, and which community context shaped the response. A large vote total or a busy discussion is not automatically evidence of more successful people. Start by separating community activity from your own defined outcome. Then decide whether you have an observational comparison or a controlled experiment with independent groups and a common opportunity to act.
Bench Kit, a fictional maker of repair worksheets, offers a free cabinet-hardware checklist. The team wants to understand completed checklist requests from Reddit visitors without treating unrelated communities as experimental arms. Open the A/B Test Results Analyzer in Reddit context after preparing unique-person counts. The selector names the context; it does not read threads, collect votes, connect an account, or distribute campaign variants.
Treat different communities as different settings
Two communities can discuss the same broad subject while serving different needs. One may attract first-time repairers asking where to begin; another may attract experienced makers looking for a specific reference. A checklist can fit one audience better even when its headline is unchanged. Before comparing outcomes, write down the relevant audience need and how each campaign reached people rather than assuming that shared subject matter means interchangeable traffic.
If version A appears in a beginner community and version B appears in a professional community, community and version are confounded. A higher request rate for B could reflect existing experience, urgency, or familiarity with the task. Calling the campaigns A and B does not make their audiences randomly assigned. Even similar traffic totals and identical measurement windows cannot resolve a difference that was built into where the versions appeared.
An observational comparison can still guide useful work. You might learn that the checklist needs a clearer beginner explanation or that a specialist audience asks for different detail. Describe those as patterns in the observed settings. Do not translate them into a claim that one headline caused a better response across Reddit. The result belongs to the actual community, offer, timing, and outcome that were measured.
For a controlled headline question, place the randomization where both versions can draw from the same eligible population. For example, your own website process might assign incoming people to two checklist-page introductions before either introduction appears. That studies the page treatment among eligible arrivals. It does not test which community is best or which Reddit post would have generated the most arrivals.
Keep votes and discussion volume out of binary inputs
Votes describe a different kind of activity from completed checklist requests. A displayed score is not a deduplicated list of eligible people who took your chosen action, and it should not be entered as a successful-person count. Nor should a community’s membership count become the denominator for a campaign merely because it is available. Membership does not identify who had the campaign opportunity or belonged to a recorded comparison group.
Comment totals have a similar problem. One person may write several replies, a discussion can continue between other participants, and a useful question may not involve a checklist request at all. Adding comments and votes compounds the mismatch because those activities may involve the same people. Keep them as separate measures of conversation and response rather than manufacturing a single conversion numerator from incompatible event totals.
A binary discussion outcome is possible only with a proper definition and reliable records. You could count whether each known eligible participant made at least one qualifying contribution during a set period, if you can establish the denominator and identity consistently. That would measure contribution, not requests or purchases. The calculator cannot supply the missing people, judge comment quality, or turn a score into a qualifying-participant dataset.
Bench Kit chooses one simpler endpoint: a unique eligible person completes a valid checklist request within 72 hours of assignment. Every success must belong to that arm’s eligible cohort. Multiple requests from the same person count once, while incomplete forms do not count. The exact definition belongs in the metric and notes so a later reviewer does not confuse checklist demand with popularity inside a discussion.
Prepare a controlled page comparison from your own records
In the fictional worked test, eligible Reddit arrivals reach the same checklist offer and are randomly assigned by Bench Kit’s separate website process. Version A starts with the repair problem; version B starts with a short inventory of the worksheet’s contents. The offer, form, access conditions, and follow-up period stay the same. This is a page-introduction experiment, not a claim about a native Reddit testing or publishing feature.
Assign people before showing the page treatment and preserve that assignment when they return. Keep a stable identifier in your own records, along with eligibility, source context when known, assignment time, and outcome time. Someone who returns through another discussion should not automatically become a new participant in the other arm. If the identity method cannot support that distinction, the independent-person assumption needs review before randomized inference is requested.
Do not select only people who finished reading or clicked another button after seeing the treatment. Those behaviors might themselves depend on the introduction. The primary denominator remains all originally assigned eligible people, not the subset who appeared most engaged afterward. Predefine exclusions using information available before assignment, and retain a record of how duplicate requests and unmatched outcomes were reconciled. The analyzer receives totals after this preparation.
If several communities send traffic into the same experiment, randomize within the common incoming process rather than assigning one community wholesale to A and another to B. Retain source information for a descriptive balance check. A pooled estimate then concerns the enrolled traffic mix, not every community independently. The analyzer does not fit a community-adjusted model, account for cluster assignment, or prove that the page effect is identical across communities.
Calculate the checklist request difference correctly
Bench Kit’s completed fictional page test has 1,800 eligible people and 108 unique requests in A. B has 1,700 eligible people and 136 unique requests. The conversion rates are 108 divided by 1,800, or 6%, and 136 divided by 1,700, or 8%. Because the denominators differ, the 28-request raw gap is not a direct measure of how much the probability of a request changed.
The absolute difference is B minus A: 8% minus 6%, giving 2 percentage points. Relative lift compares that difference with A’s baseline: 2 divided by 6, then multiplied by 100, giving approximately 33.33%. The percentage-point difference is usually easier to connect to the number of people affected. Relative lift is useful too, provided its 6% baseline remains visible in the explanation.
Subtract successful people from eligible people to check the remaining counts. A has 1,692 people without a request; B has 1,564. Each arm meets the numerical guard of at least ten successes and ten non-successes. Those counts permit a statistical display only if the randomized design and all four confirmations are also valid. Large numbers cannot repair community confounding or create trustworthy identities after the fact.
On a common scale of 1,000 eligible people, 6% corresponds to 60 requests and 8% to 80, a difference of 20. This is an explanation of the observed rate gap, not an extra result from a different sample. It also is not a forecast of future demand. A different mix of repair needs, source discussions, or available worksheet content could produce a different response in the next campaign.

Check whether audience mix reverses the apparent result
Consider a separate observational example with two fictional source groups, Starter Workshop and Trade Bench. In Starter Workshop, A records 80 requests from 1,000 people, an 8% rate. B records 35 from 500, a 7% rate. In Trade Bench, A records 60 from 500, or 12%, while B records 110 from 1,000, or 11%. Within each source group, B’s observed rate is one percentage point lower.
Now pool the source groups by version. A has 140 requests from 1,500 people, approximately 9.33%. B has 145 from 1,500, approximately 9.67%. B appears higher overall by about 0.33 percentage points, even though it was lower in both source groups. B received a larger share of traffic from Trade Bench, the source with higher request rates for both versions. The mix changes the overall comparison.
This reversal does not mean that the arithmetic is broken. The pooled rates describe the particular mixes that were observed. It means the pooled difference does not isolate the version change. It would be misleading to present B’s overall advantage as evidence that its wording improved requests. Likewise, the lower within-source rates remain observational findings here; they do not become causal simply because the table has more detail.
Keep the source-specific counts beside the campaign review and decide whether a controlled follow-up can answer the wording question. Separate analyzer projects can document each valid cohort’s descriptive rates, but the tool does not automatically stratify, standardize, or adjust the pooled result. Do not average percentages without considering their denominators, and do not conceal the source mix by supplying only the combined totals to someone making the decision.
For a manual illustration of why weights matter, imagine an explicitly chosen equal mix of the two sources. A’s equally weighted rate would be the average of 8% and 12%, or 10%; B’s would be the average of 7% and 11%, or 9%. These are hypothetical standardized summaries, not the observed pooled rates. They do not establish causality or represent an automatic adjustment offered by this tool. Their purpose is to make the hidden weighting decision visible.
Record timing, access changes, and shared exposure
A discussion has a context beyond the words in the campaign message. Its age, position in an active conversation, and the questions already answered can affect who follows a link. Record the timing and relevant context in your own campaign notes. If comparing ordinary campaign cohorts, give each the same follow-up opportunity where possible, while recognizing that equal windows alone do not make the audience selection comparable.
For the controlled page example, every assigned participant receives 72 hours to complete a request. If enrollment ends while the last participants still have time remaining, wait for their windows to finish before the planned readout. Do not mark those people as unsuccessful just because an early cohort has already matured. Keep enrollment dates, follow-up duration, and final review time distinct so the counts can be checked later.
If a source discussion becomes unavailable or its offer description changes, note the event rather than quietly replacing its traffic with another community. A source interruption might alter the enrolled population. A broken destination can also affect whether people can complete the outcome. Decide in advance how serious delivery failures will be handled. After seeing the results, selective time exclusions can make a comparison look cleaner while changing what it measures.
Participants may also share a worksheet explanation or discuss the two page versions with one another. That can make one person’s experience affect another’s outcome, weakening the independent-group assumption. Assigning whole communities would raise a different, clustered design problem that this two-proportion calculator does not analyze. Do not treat community-level assignments as thousands of independent random assignments just because thousands of people later appear in the totals.
Separate evidence strength from campaign usefulness
Begin with descriptive mode when the campaign was not randomized. Randomized inference requires explicit confirmation of random allocation, independent groups, a fixed horizon, and a common binary outcome, plus the minimum count guard in both arms. Selecting those confirmations does not make them true. If communities were used as unrelated A and B audiences, leave the result descriptive and explain the audience difference instead of treating it as a minor footnote.
For an eligible test, the analyzer displays a two-sided pooled two-proportion z-test at a 5% level, 95% Wilson intervals for each rate, and a Newcombe interval for B minus A. A p-value is not the probability that a campaign is better. An interval that spans zero does not show equivalence. Because the test and interval use different methods, preserve both if their boundary judgments do not match exactly.
Avoid searching every community, comment style, window, and outcome for the most impressive result. This analyzer does not correct multiple comparisons or support repeated significance checks with early stopping. Keep exploratory breakdowns labeled as such, and use them to formulate a focused next question. Do not turn one attractive subgroup from a wide search into a campaign-wide conclusion without acknowledging how that subgroup was selected.
For practical use, ask whether the observed request difference solves a real problem. A clearer page may save explanation work even when a conversion estimate remains uncertain. Conversely, a statistically supported increase in requests may not matter if the worksheet attracts the wrong repair need. Use the predefined outcome honestly and review the content fit separately. This result does not measure sales, repair success, or the quality of every discussion participant.
Hand off the comparison without promising automated campaigns
Write a review that identifies the offer, treatment, enrolled population, community context, four counts, window, and decision. Include source-specific tables when audience mix matters. If the study was observational, say so near the result. A colleague should be able to distinguish a page experiment among arrivals from a comparison of different community campaigns without needing to reconstruct your reasoning from an unexplained A/B label.
Separate the next action from the strongest claim the evidence supports. A team can decide to improve its beginner explanation after reading relevant questions without claiming a proven conversion increase. Name the person responsible, the specific change, and the question still unanswered. This makes an observational review actionable while preserving the distinction between a sensible editorial response and a measured treatment effect.
Copy the review for discussion, keep CSV for complete calculated records, and save JSON to reopen the editable aggregate project. The PDF review is rasterized, so use the data exports when selectable values matter. Retain your original source and assignment records separately. The analyzer has no autosave, native reporting import, or account connection. Ordinary site analytics are separate from the local calculation of the supplied counts.
The free tools directory provides other preparation workflows. For an illustrated checklist, the Reddit guide image palette guide covers readable labels and diagram colors. That is a separate design task, not a way to validate campaign causality. Keep the approved worksheet, the campaign record, and the comparison report linked in your own files rather than assuming one tool transfers them to another.
For recurring account tasks, SMTasker’s Reddit automation tools support comments, post upvotes, and comment upvotes on connected Android phones through a local Windows or macOS client. These actions do not establish an experimental outcome or validate a campaign’s effectiveness. Configure them as separate account work; the analyzer does not publish Reddit posts, run a randomized campaign, import its project into SMTasker, or convert vote activity into successful people.
Questions about Reddit Campaign Comparison
Can two different subreddits serve as A and B?
They can be two observed campaign settings, but unrelated communities are not interchangeable randomized groups. Audience needs, discussion context, and exposure can differ with the version. Report valid unique-person outcome rates descriptively and retain the community labels. To study a page treatment causally, arrange an appropriate independent assignment from a common eligible population through a separate process before either version is shown.
Why can the overall conversion rate disagree with each community?
The versions can contain different proportions of high-response and low-response source groups. In the worked mix example, B is one point lower within both groups but slightly higher after pooling because it receives more high-response traffic. Keep the source-specific counts and denominators. The analyzer does not automatically adjust for that mix, and a pooled advantage alone does not isolate the effect of the campaign version.
Can I use post score or total comments as conversions?
Not as unique successful people. Those measures do not establish a binary outcome among the same eligible participants used in the denominator. Choose a defined person-level action, such as one completed checklist request, and deduplicate it in your own records. If you only have votes and discussion totals, report those separately rather than entering them into fields designed for people and successes.
