Separate Username Changes from List Changes
Snapchat Friend List Comparison with Prepared Username Snapshots
A Snapchat friend review starts with usernames, not the names you recognize in Chat. When you have two comparable saved lists, the follower and connection list checker can separate usernames appearing only earlier, only later, or in both records. Select Snapchat and snapshot mode. This guide follows an illustrator reviewing their network around a local design fair, while showing how to inspect export categories, prepare usable files, and avoid turning a missing username into an unsupported claim about a friendship.
Snapchat is snapshot-only in this checker. There is no reciprocal Following versus Followers comparison, live friend lookup, or account connection. You supply the two records and the tool compares their identifiers locally. A Snapchat My Data archive may help with preparation, but it is not guaranteed to provide a usable complete current-friend list, and this checker does not automatically extract one. Establish what each source means before asking what changed between them.
Choose the Same Kind of Snapchat Record Twice
Decide whether you have two records of the same account and the same friend category. Do not combine current friends with deleted friends, blocked users, pending additions, contact suggestions, or other historical entries. Their labels describe different sets. A current list compared with a deleted list would mostly reveal a category mismatch, even if both came from an official download and contain perfectly valid Snapchat usernames.
The illustrator in this example saves a defined username record before a design fair and another after the follow-up period. Their question is which identifiers differ between those two observations. They are not testing who enjoyed the work, opened a Snap, or bought a print. Keeping the question narrow makes the review useful for checking their contact notes without claiming that a networking event caused every change.
A friend record is also not a list of public-profile followers or Story viewers. Those groups cannot stand in for the same membership definition. If your actual source is a manually maintained subset of workshop contacts, call it that subset and use the identical rule later. The Snapchat context helps interpret supported identifiers; selecting it does not transform a contact worksheet into a complete platform friend list.
Record the account, collection date, source category, and preparation method beside each file. When there are multiple Snapchat accounts, similar nicknames can make a wrong-account file look plausible. Confirm the account before cleaning the data. A large difference is not meaningful until the sources describe the same thing. If you cannot establish that relationship between the two files, resolve it before running a comparison or sharing a report.
Treat My Data as Material to Inspect
Snapchat provides My Data through account settings and its account portal. You can select data and a date range, submit a request, and download the prepared export when available. Snapchat lists Friends among its possible download categories, but also notes that available information and retention can vary. That is a starting point for inspecting your own export, not a promise that every account receives the exact current-friend dataset needed here.
The download arrives as a ZIP archive. Extract it on your computer and inspect its contents before preparing input. This checker does not import ZIP or HTML and does not automatically unpack a native Snapchat archive. An archive JSON file may contain nested categories rather than an array of usernames. The fact that JSON is a supported extension does not mean any Snapchat JSON structure is ready to load.
Look at category labels and several actual records. If the available material contains deleted or blocked entries but no reliable current-friend collection, do not combine those categories and call the result current friends. An empty or missing current category is not proof that your account has no friends. Keep the export as source material, note what is missing, and use a different trustworthy record or establish a new baseline later.
An export date range does not by itself reconstruct the membership list as it stood on the first day of that range. Two requests made today are not automatically an earlier and a later snapshot. Use saved records whose observation dates and meaning you can establish. If you manually prepare a list from your own account records, describe its scope honestly and use that same collection approach for the next observation.
Prepare Usernames Without Replacing Them with Familiar Names
Snapchat distinguishes a unique username from a Display Name, which is the name people see around the app. Display Names do not need to be unique and can change. Someone may also see a name associated with a saved phone contact. For comparison, use the actual username from your source. Never substitute a nickname, Chat label, full name, phone number, or email simply because it looks more recognizable.
A practical preparation sheet can keep username, your private note, source category, and observation date in separate columns. Export the username column for matching while retaining the other columns in your own records. The checker does not perform fuzzy matching between names and usernames. If a row lacks a reliable username, leave it unresolved outside the input rather than inventing one from a person whose Display Name happens to match.
Snapchat allows usernames to change, so even the correct matching field is not a permanent proof of identity across all time. Suppose a fictional contact uses lena.crafts earlier and lenamakes later. Without a verified connection between those usernames, the comparison can show one absent entry and one added entry. It cannot infer that they belong to one person from the similar wording or a shared nickname.
Use one consistent username representation in both files and preserve meaningful punctuation. The checker handles supported username input and recognized same-platform profile URLs, but a plain prepared username list is easiest to inspect. Removing a leading @ is not permission to rewrite the username itself. Normalization helps matching text; it does not confirm that an account is live, reveal a changed username, or establish who controls an account.
Build Supported Files and Reconcile the Cleanup
For a small record, paste one username per line. For a larger record, prepare TXT, CSV, or a JSON array of username strings. In CSV, select the username column explicitly instead of accepting a display-name or note column. In JSON, extract the intended usernames into the simple supported array; do not submit an entire account archive and expect the tool to locate or classify every friendship record.
Use separate prepared files for the two observation dates. If several files together represent one snapshot, confirm that every included file belongs to that side and category. Mixing last month with this month inside one source creates a combined record that neither date actually represents. Keep any duplicate exports out of the source unless you have a reason to include them and understand the cleanup they will require.
In the design-fair example, the earlier source has 184 candidate rows. Six duplicates and four invalid entries leave 174 distinct valid usernames. The later source has 197 candidate rows, with five duplicates and two invalid entries, leaving 190. The difference between the raw row counts is 13, but the difference between the cleaned unique totals is 16. This is why a preparation spreadsheet row count cannot replace the tool counts.
Inspect rejected rows rather than treating them as missing friends. A pasted label or malformed identifier is an input issue, not evidence of a relationship change. The tool accepts files up to 5 MB each, 10 MB per source, and 100,000 candidate rows per source. Keep unrelated archive data out of the prepared files. Splitting files does not remove the total source limits or fix an incorrect identity field.
Check Your Username Records
Compare Two Prepared Snapchat Snapshots
Keep categories consistent, review duplicate and invalid counts, and inspect the usernames that differ.
Compare the Fair Snapshots and Check Every Total
Select Snapchat and snapshot mode, then place the older record in Earlier list and the newer record in Later list. Optional ordered dates make the report easier to understand but do not change its matching logic or request platform data. Confirm the account and source labels before comparing. If you reverse the inputs, the shared group stays the same while the meanings of added and absent reverse.
With 174 earlier usernames and 190 later usernames, suppose 163 appear in both. That leaves 11 absent from the later list and 27 added to the later list. Check the earlier side: 163 plus 11 equals 174. Check the later side: 163 plus 27 equals 190. These identities describe the supplied records after validation; they are not confirmed live accounts or a log of individual Add Friends actions.
The net increase is 27 minus 11, or 16 usernames. Divide 16 by the earlier total of 174 and multiply by 100 to get approximately 9.20%. The illustrator should not report 27 as the net increase. Equally, a summary saying only that the list grew by 16 hides the 38 identifiers that appear on just one side. Keep additions, absences, and net movement as different descriptions.
The union contains 201 distinct usernames across both records: 163 shared plus 11 absent plus 27 added. The chart represents those three disjoint buckets, not 201 current friends. A shared username is counted once in that union but contributes to both source totals. If you describe overlap, 163 divided by 174 is approximately 93.68% of the earlier record appearing again. This is recorded overlap, not a promise of uninterrupted friendship.
Separate Missing Usernames from Explanations
The absent bucket does not reveal whether someone removed you, blocked you, changed a username, deleted an account, or was omitted during preparation. It also does not tell you which person acted. All it establishes is a missing match in the later source. Keep the wording neutral when reviewing the result, especially if you are tempted to interpret a familiar name through a change in a personal relationship.
Start with the category check. If the later file accidentally contains deleted friends instead of current friends, even correct usernames produce the wrong comparison. Next check whether all intended files were loaded and the username column was selected. Then inspect obvious preparation issues in rejected rows. These steps can explain a broad pattern without turning every missing entry into a separate account investigation.
For possible username changes, consult evidence you already have in your own records. A similar Display Name is not enough to merge two usernames. If a change is independently verified, preserve the original snapshot comparison and record the verified connection separately. You can prepare a clearly labeled reconciled comparison when needed, but do not erase the original difference and imply the checker recognized the connection automatically.
A username present in both records does not prove continuous membership between observations. The person might disappear and return without that intermediate state being captured. Likewise, an added entry has no exact friendship start date merely because it first appears in your later snapshot. Narrower observation intervals can reduce the time window, but no pair of endpoint records provides a complete history of everything that happened between them.
Use the Results for a Contact Review, Not an Action List
The illustrator reviews the 27 added usernames against their own design-fair notes. Some might correspond to introductions they recorded; others may have no documented connection with the fair. Keep those groups separate rather than assigning every addition to the event. Presence in the later record cannot establish an accepted request, a response to a particular Snap, or interest in purchasing artwork without additional evidence outside the checker.
The 11 absent usernames become a preparation review queue first. After checking the source, the illustrator may leave several entries unresolved. That is a valid outcome. A contact can still appear in a separate order ledger or conversation note while missing from the supplied friend record. Do not convert uncertainty into a task to add everyone again. The comparison has no knowledge of intent, context, or whether renewed contact would be useful.
For an account handover, the same method can reconcile an older username worksheet with a newer one. Attach the account, category, dates, and any known gaps so the next reviewer understands the result. Keep that operational record separate from public-profile audience reporting. A change in a defined friend snapshot does not measure Story reach, follower growth, saved content, conversation quality, or the number of people who saw a promotion.
When the fair also generated sales, use the social media ROI calculator with actual orders and costs instead of assigning revenue to added usernames. For presentation questions, the social media profile audit supports a separate review of the profile itself. These complementary checks answer different questions, letting you discuss network records, profile presentation, and financial results without treating one count as evidence for all three.
Keep the Baseline and the Next Workflow Distinct
Search a selected bucket to find a username and use the 50-row pagination to inspect longer results. The counts remain totals for the full comparison. Results are sorted for review, not ranked by closeness or recent activity. Copy the selected list when you need that bucket, or use the categorized CSV for the complete validated comparison. Do not mistake the visible page for everything in the result.
Use the PDF for an aggregate summary with the chart, input and cleanup counts, context, and optional dates. It does not contain raw usernames, whereas the CSV and copied lists do. Keep your original files and preparation notes alongside any saved report. The checker does not persist the record for you, and changing or correcting input means you need a fresh comparison before relying on the exported figures.
For the next review, collect the same category for the same account with the same username preparation method. If a source is blank, do not mark it intentionally empty unless an empty collection is genuinely confirmed. A failed export or unavailable category is not a zero-friend baseline. Document method changes and unresolved gaps before comparing again; otherwise a cleaner preparation process can look like a sudden change in your network.
When you need a separate ongoing workflow, SMTasker Snapchat automation supports Add Friends through the native Android app, controlled with a Windows or macOS client. That is its Snapchat action here, not publishing, messaging, Story viewing, or automatic removal. The free checker does not connect to SMTasker, feed it exported usernames, or start actions. Review the records independently and evaluate Add Friends only against your actual workflow needs.
Questions about Snapchat Friend Lists
What if My Data shows deleted or blocked users but no usable current-friend list?
Do not combine those categories or assume a missing current category means you have no friends. They are different records, and the checker cannot recover a complete current list from them. Inspect what your export actually supplies and keep the limitation with your notes. Use another trustworthy saved current-friend record if you have one, or establish a clearly defined baseline later. An intentionally empty source is appropriate only when the intended list is genuinely confirmed empty.
Will a changed Snapchat username look like a removed and added friend?
It can appear as one username absent and another added when the two keys differ. The tool cannot connect them automatically or use a matching Display Name as proof. Snapchat permits username changes, so keep any independently verified old-to-new connection in your preparation notes. Preserve the original files and label any reconciled run clearly. Without reliable evidence, leave the two identifiers separate and avoid describing the pair as either one confirmed person or two confirmed people.
Can I compare my Snapchat friends with public followers to find who did not add me back?
Not as a reciprocal relationship check. This Snapchat workflow compares two snapshots of the same defined collection, while friends and public followers represent different groups. A difference between those groups would not establish whether someone added you back. Prepare comparable earlier and later username records instead. Even then, the buckets describe list membership in your supplied data, not live friendship status, accepted requests, or the reason an identifier is missing.
