Make the source list clear before measuring change
TikTok Follower List Comparison: Prepare Usernames and CSV Files
A TikTok follower list comparison starts with usable identifiers, not a video performance chart or a headline follower total. With two prepared lists, you can identify handles recorded in both, only in the first, or only in the second. The difficult part is often preparing comparable records. This guide shows how a language tutor separates username data from other export fields and reviews audience changes around a new lesson series.
Open the Follower List Checker, choose TikTok, and select snapshots or relationships. Paste one username per line, or use supported prepared TXT, CSV, or JSON files. The checker does not extract follower lists from a complete native TikTok archive. It compares the identities you supply locally, without connecting to TikTok, loading profiles, or turning results into follow or unfollow actions.
Find your TikTok data without expecting an instant snapshot
TikTok’s official help describes the request path in its app: open Profile, then the menu, Settings and privacy, Account, and Download your data. Choose the information and file format offered for your request, then request the data. The service prepares the file separately and notifies you when it is ready. This account download is a source-preparation step outside the free checker, not an import connection provided by SMTasker.
The same help explains that preparation may take a few days and that a completed file remains available for up to four days. It also warns that some categories may omit the latest 24 to 48 hours because of processing. Those limits matter when reviewing a recent lesson launch. A file downloaded this afternoon should not automatically be treated as a complete record of every change since yesterday.
Inspect the package you actually receive before promising that it contains a usable follower or following list. Available information and field arrangements must be checked in your own records. If identity data is present, prepare the relevant username field locally. Do not select a large archive object and assume the checker will discover the correct relationship arrays. There is no implemented full TikTok archive adapter in this tool.
Keep request, download, and any documented generation dates in separate notes. Also record the account and categories requested. If you need a very recent comparison but cannot establish the source coverage, postpone the conclusion or label the uncertainty. Repeatedly requesting files does not remove processing lag. The goal is a defensible pair of identity lists, not a pair of downloads that merely arrived at convenient times.
Define the audience or relationship you intend to compare
The tutor wants to review audience membership before and after a pronunciation series. Both sources therefore need follower usernames for the same teaching account. Source A is the earlier record and source B is the later record. Select snapshots mode and add ordered dates if their meaning is known. Keep a separate note when a date refers to collection rather than an exact platform snapshot time.
Do not replace the earlier follower list with a list of people who commented on the first lesson. Commenters and followers are different groups, even when many handles overlap. Likewise, people who liked a video, joined a session, or appeared in a contact worksheet do not become followers merely because you choose TikTok in the platform selector. The tool compares membership in supplied sets; it cannot verify your category labels.
A deliberately limited cohort can still answer a useful question. The tutor might compare a saved group of workshop participants at two collection points, provided the same inclusion rules apply. Describe that as a participant-list comparison, not the movement of the entire TikTok audience. Removing unknown records from only the later source would make the absence bucket reflect your preparation choices as well as any underlying membership change.
For reciprocity instead, choose relationships mode and supply Following in A and Followers in B from a reasonably comparable collection period. That check asks which recorded follows are returned. The followers versus following guide covers the distinction across supported platforms. Keep the tutor’s launch review and current relationship review as separate analyses so the report never treats one as historical proof for the other.
Prepare a username column the CSV parser can identify
Build a working copy that contains the identity data you intend to compare. The simplest pasted input is one TikTok username per line. A prepared TXT file follows the same idea. A prepared JSON file can be an array of identifier strings, not an arbitrary collection of account objects. Keep the untouched original separately so you can explain exactly how the working list was derived.
For CSV, use a clear header such as username, with one identity on each row. Other columns may remain in the file if they are useful in your own worksheet, but explicitly select the username column in the checker. A column headed display_name, lesson_topic, or collected_at is not a replacement. Inspect a few rows after choosing the field; an apparently plausible list can still be the wrong column.
Suppose a worksheet has username, display_name, lesson_topic, and collected_at. A lesson topic may contain a comma, such as travel, beginner. Use your spreadsheet’s CSV export so the field is quoted correctly; do not construct rows by joining visible cells with commas. The bundled local CSV parser handles CSV structure, while your explicit identity-column choice tells the checker which field represents the account you want to compare.
Separate preparation from comparison. If the native download stores usernames inside nested records, extract the relevant field using a suitable local editor or structured conversion workflow first. Do not paste the whole record, its date labels, or explanatory prose into a username column. This guide does not claim a built-in converter for that archive. Once the prepared file contains only intended candidate identities in the selected field, it is ready for validation.
Use handles and profile URLs without inventing identity matches
TikTok usernames can be supplied as handles or recognized TikTok profile URLs. A leading at sign and letter case are normalized for matching, and profile URL tracking details are discarded. For example, @SoundLabTutor and soundlabtutor represent the same canonical handle in the comparison. This cleanup makes equivalent text forms easier to compare. It does not fetch the profile or establish that the account is currently active.
Keep display names out of the identity field even when they look unique in your worksheet. The tutor may know two learners called Alex, and either learner can change the visible name attached to a profile. A video URL also identifies content rather than the intended profile record. Use the actual username or a supported profile URL, and investigate rejected input instead of treating every recognizable piece of text as a match.
Handle changes create a separate limitation. If a learner appears under one username in the earlier list and another in the later list, the checker cannot independently determine that both belong to the same person. It may report an absence and an addition. Do not merge similar spellings automatically or replace a name based on intuition. Preserve any separately verified correction in your preparation notes and distinguish it from the tool’s matching behavior.
Check the source totals after cleanup. A practice source with 64 candidate rows might yield 58 distinct valid usernames, four duplicate occurrences, and two invalid entries. The number to compare is 58, not 64. The rejected entries need review, while repeated valid usernames do not increase audience size. Keep these counts in the report so a colleague can reconcile the working CSV with the unique list actually used in the calculation.

Compare your TikTok username lists
Load comparable prepared records, choose the CSV username column when needed, and review the three result buckets.
Read a lesson-launch snapshot example correctly
In the fictional launch review, the earlier source contains 800 unique follower usernames and the later source contains 860. Exactly 750 occur in both. The three buckets are therefore 50 Absent from later list, 110 Added to later list, and 750 Present in both. Rebuild each source from its components: 750 plus 50 equals 800, and 750 plus 110 equals 860.
The net recorded increase is 60, because 110 additions minus 50 absences equals 60. Across both records there are 910 unique usernames, calculated as 750 plus 50 plus 110. The tutor should not report 910 current followers or 110 net new followers. One number is the union across two records; the other is a one-sided addition count before accounting for identities missing from the later source.
For a manual baseline calculation, 60 divided by 800 gives 7.5% net recorded-list growth. The retained share of the earlier list is 750 divided by 800, or 93.75%, leaving 6.25% absent later. These figures describe the prepared records. They do not prove that the pronunciation series caused growth, that the absent learners disliked it, or that every addition first discovered the tutor through those lessons.
Read the changes alongside the actual teaching plan. Perhaps the series introduced shorter exercises and a clearer profile description. Those are sensible subjects for a separate content review, but this comparison has no watch history, lesson completion, or sales data. Use the Follower Growth Calculator for a separate count-based planning exercise, and keep its assumptions distinct from the usernames observed in these two snapshots.
Review current reciprocity without labeling people as losses
The tutor also prepares a current Following list with 320 unique usernames and a Followers list with 860. Their overlap contains 205 usernames. In relationships mode, the results are 115 Not in follower list, 655 Followers not in following list, and 205 In both lists. The check is independent of the earlier launch snapshot, even though the later follower count happens to be the same.
The following source reconciles as 115 plus 205 equals 320. The follower source reconciles as 655 plus 205 equals 860. Together the buckets contain 975 distinct usernames. If the tutor calculates the share of followed accounts appearing in Followers, 205 divided by 320 is about 64.06%. State that denominator explicitly; it is not the percentage of followers who watch lessons, participate, or purchase a course.
The 115 mismatches may include language teachers, pronunciation references, publishers, or creators the tutor follows for research. A nonreciprocal relationship can be entirely intentional. Meanwhile, the 655 followers outside Following can include learners who expect useful lessons rather than a return follow. Use the buckets to organize questions about the account’s purpose, not to rank people by loyalty or create an obligation to return every follow.
Before reviewing an individual username, ask what decision would change. If the tutor wants a better professional reading list, a source-quality review may help. If the goal is lesson relevance, comments and teaching feedback belong in another worksheet. The checker supplies neither account quality scores nor engagement labels. It also provides no direct profile links or automatic account actions, so a relationship mismatch remains an observation to interpret separately.
Resolve import and coverage problems before exporting
A blank source is not a confirmed empty audience. If the tutor has not finished preparing the later CSV, leave the comparison incomplete. Only mark a source intentionally empty when that is an accurate description of the record. Otherwise, every valid identity on the other side could be misread as a change. An invalid or failed import is likewise not evidence that there are no usernames in the account.
When CSV results look strange, confirm the identity column before changing the source data. Then inspect quoting, headers, empty cells, and rows copied from another account. If a file is rejected, read the source-specific error and replace it with a valid prepared list. Do not keep downloading an old comparison after changing input. Review the current validated results again once the repaired source has been accepted.
The limits are 5 MB per file, 10 MB per source, and 100,000 candidate rows per source. Handles can be up to 100 characters, and profile URLs up to 500. Exclude unrelated archive material during preparation instead of uploading a full package. Splitting files does not bypass the per-source limits. A smaller, documented cohort can be useful, but it must not be represented as the complete follower audience.
After successful comparison, select a bucket and search for a username to inspect its placement. Rows are sorted and paginated in groups of 50; the full counts remain unchanged. A search result showing one match does not reduce the category total to one. Preserve this distinction when taking notes or answering a colleague’s question, and use the full CSV export when the task requires every categorized validated identity.
Turn the comparison into a careful teaching review
For the launch meeting, choose the PDF aggregate report to share source counts, cleanup counts, the bucket chart, context, and known dates without raw usernames. Keep the CSV or copied bucket list only where an identity-level review is necessary. The CSV contains full categorized results, while copying gives the selected list. Neither should be mistaken for an anonymous document simply because the preparation and comparison happened locally in the browser.
Save the baseline files yourself if another comparison is planned. The checker has no persistent audience-monitoring account and does not keep a history for the tutor. Store the account, list type, preparation method, scope, and date meaning with each source. For the next lesson series, repeat those choices before comparing. Consistent collection makes a modest change interpretable; inconsistent inclusion rules can make even a large change difficult to explain.
Use the report to ask whether the teaching promise remains clear, whether the lesson topics match the intended learners, and what other evidence is needed. The Social Media Profile Audit can support a separate review of profile details you provide. Course revenue and acquisition costs belong in a financial worksheet, not in an inferred value assigned to every username in the addition bucket.
Discuss action only after identifying the question and its evidence. The tutor might revise an introductory lesson, improve the profile description, or keep collecting comparable snapshots. SMTasker can be explored as a separate automation workflow, but this free checker does not send lists to it, confirm live TikTok accounts, or run bulk actions. Keep the comparison report as a record of supplied data and your interpretation as a clearly separate planning decision.
Questions about TikTok Follower List Comparison
Can I import my complete TikTok data download directly?
Not as a native archive extraction workflow. Prepare the relevant usernames first, then paste one per line or choose supported TXT, CSV, or JSON files. For CSV, explicitly select the identity column; prepared JSON must be an array of identifier strings. The checker does not accept ZIP or HTML imports and does not discover follower arrays inside an arbitrary full TikTok archive.
Why might a recent follower be missing from my downloaded record?
TikTok warns that some data categories can lag by 24 to 48 hours, and preparation takes place before download. Your selected scope or preparation may also omit relevant rows. Check the actual record and source notes rather than treating the download date as a guaranteed live snapshot. The comparison cannot tell which explanation applies to a particular missing username or establish the exact time of an account action.
Are added usernames the same as net follower growth?
No. In the worked snapshot example, 110 usernames appear only later and 50 appear only earlier, producing a net increase of 60. The later source contains 860 unique usernames, compared with 800 earlier. Added, absent, shared, and net change describe different quantities. Check the source totals and overlap together, and do not attribute those changes to a video series without evidence outside this list comparison.
