Get set for this lesson

Have the Android phone unlocked and a data-capable USB cable ready. Android menu labels differ between manufacturers; the video demonstrates the settings to look for rather than an identical menu path on every device.

FOLLOW THE WALKTHROUGH

What happens in the video

Reveal Developer Options

On the phone, open Settings and find About Phone. The presenter taps Build Number seven times; on some models this sits under Software Information. The device may request a PIN or screen lock to confirm the change. Developer Options then becomes available in Settings.

Enable USB debugging

Inside Developer Options, turn on USB debugging and accept the phone’s warning. The video mentions Samsung Auto Blocker as one reason the switch may be unavailable. If a protection feature blocks this step, understand its security implications and change it only on a device you control.

Authorize this computer

When the phone is connected by USB, Android may ask whether to allow debugging from this computer. Review the prompt on the phone. Choose the persistent trust option only for your own trusted computer, then tap Allow. This permission is separate from the USB cable itself.

Check the common connection blockers

If the prompt or device never appears, try a cable that carries data, select a data or File Transfer USB mode if the phone offers it, and reconnect. The recording also shows revoking USB debugging authorizations so a fresh approval prompt can appear.

WATCH FOR THESE DETAILS

Check this as you follow along

  • Build Number often lives one menu deeper than About Phone.
  • A charge-only cable can power a phone without providing a usable data connection.
  • Do not approve USB debugging for a computer you do not trust.
  • If you reset authorizations, expect to approve the computer again on the phone.

AFTER WATCHING

Put this into practice

Move to Part 4 and verify that the phone appears Online in Devices. If it does not, repeat the cable, USB mode, phone prompt, and local-client checks before adding accounts.
